THE END

Reflection of MPU Personal Development

Finally its over, a week long of MPU programs, lots of blogging and video making. To be honest, its been a relaxing week compared to normal college days as its a lot stress-free and also less information is canned into my tiny little brain.

I would like to take this opportunity to thanks Mr. Irwan, our MPU tutor. Even though he gave a lot of homework, tasks and not to mention deadline (By forcing us to join another week of MPU if we fail to hand in our tasks by tomorrow). I would like to thank him for exposing me with so much new apps and website for instant blogspot, powtoon and prezi. I'm pretty sure that all these great and helpful apps can be used in my future.

Mr. Irwan also introduced me with blogging, honest speaking, its my first time blogging (mySpace does not count), and I'm having lots of fun editing and decorating my own blog. I'm not sure whether I will continue using this blog, but I'm sure that it will be a memorable blog. Besides, Mr. Irwan also gave me chance to stand on stage in front of the whole batch of March intakes to give my presentation. I really learnt a lot from this boring yet meaningful MPU Program, thank you Taylor's College for making it happen.

              THANK
                            YOU

S.W.O.T.

My reflection shows, who I am, inside

2 Miserable but also Meaningful Month of mine

About 4 months ago, I was locked far away from my home where I was unfamiliar with, but there was nothing I could do, it's compulsory, if I go against it, I will probably end up in jail now. So what it actually is that was controlling my will? Locking me up for 2 months? It's a devil, a devil we called, PLKN or National Service.

Life in NS was miserable at first, the classes were boring and most importantly useless. I went in NS 1 week later than the others, so I was actually considered as the newbie. As a newbie, there's lots of things to be learnt and what to do and not to do. It wasn't that easy in the beginning but slowly, I picked up with them.

One of the major problem I was facing was getting use to the life in NS. Life in NS was tough for me, as I never stayed away from home for such a long time, so getting homesick was one of the problems I faced. Besides, I was also not used to getting up so early in the morning, bathing cold water from the mountain, eating spicy Malay food  for every single meal, sleeping without air-cond, doing my own laundry and many other contrasts with my life. But eventually, I got used to it, and i learnt how to be independent.

Another exposure I got from NS was mixing with people from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures, and religions. As I had always been in a Chinese SMK school, I spend almost all my time with Chinese. But after joining NS, I realized that our circle of friends should not be bounded by religion or colour of skin. We should mix around and get to know more people. By joining NS, I was actually forced to mix with others, and because of that, I learnt a lot from others for example some knowledge on Islam, some knowledge about cultures of Malays from different region of Malaysia.

So for those who may one day be chosen to join NS, I encourage you to go. In a matter of fact, different camp sites will have different rules and some maybe more fun and relax than the other. So why not take the gamble and give it a try as it is a great opportunity to learn something essential to survive in this world. Me myself got use to staying in a hostel for college after getting the hands-on even worse life in NS. Also, I matured after exposing and mixing with others in NS and also my sight of vision became wider, I won't just think of staying in my current living circle for the rest of my life but I will try to explore.

  • As you all know, it's a huge world out there, you just need to step out of your own circle and step into another's circle and the way you think or see                                   things may be totally different.

Learning Pattern

VAK Learning Styles Self-Assessment Questionnaire

On the second day of the MPU program at Taylor's, we've been given the opportunity to carry out the VAK Learning Styles Self-Assessment Questionnaire to test and get to know our learning styles.

The VAK learning styles model suggests that most people can be divided into one of three preferred styles of learning.
  • VISUAL learning style
  • AUDITORY learning style
  • KINAESTHETIC learning style

After doing the test, I found out that my leaning style is VISUAL. VAK Learning Styles explain that someone with a VISUAL learning style has a preference for seen or observed things, including pictures, diagrams, demonstrations, displays, handouts, films, flip-chart, etc. These people will use phrases such as ‘show me’, ‘let’s have a look at that’ and will be best able to perform a new task after reading the instructions or watching someone else do it first. These are the people who will work from lists and written directions and instructions. A VISUAL learner uses these ways to study :

INTAKE [To take in the information, use]
  1. underlining
  2. different colors
  3. highlighters
  4. symbols
  5. flow charts, charts, graphs
  6. pictures, videos, posters slides
  7. different spatial arrangements on the page
  8. white space
  9. textbooks with diagrams, pictures
  10. lecturers who use gestures and picturesque language

After knowing about ourselves, the next task was to find another person with different leaning styles to learn more about the variety of learning styles. After many attempts, I finally found an AUDITORY learner and a KINAESTHETIC learner. These are my results after a Q&A session:

Name : Teh Wei Ching
VAK Results : AUDITORY learner
Learning styles :
- Pays attention in class
- Completes homework on time
- Attend classes
- Prefer listening than reading
- Discuss with others
- Explains new ideas to others

Name : Julyan Tay
VAK Results : KINAESTHETIC learner
Learning styles :
- Studies alone
- Doesn't burn the midnight oil
- Procrastinator
- Trial and error
- Do pass years
- Have his own recipe for problem solving

People commonly have a main preferred learning style, but this will be part of a blend of all three. Some people have a very strong preference; other people have a more even mixture of two or less commonly, three styles. When you know your preferred learning style(s) you understand the type of learning that best suits you. This enables you to choose the types of learning that work best for you. There is no right or wrong learning style. The point is that there are types of learning that are right for your own preferred learning style.

The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.

What am I made of?

Personality Test

I have completed the personality test.

Jungian/Myers-Briggs Personality Type is based on four preferences, that when combined produce personality type. This page first cover my scores for each of the preferences then finally give a description for the type that they produce.

Introversion (I)
 Extroversion (E)
Introversion-Extroversion is your cognitive orientation. Introverts centre themselves inside their bodies. Extroverts centre their attention outside their bodies. Your score on I-E was 1 (scores range from -2 to 2) which indicates that you are extroverted (with high confidence)
Sensing (S)
 Intuition (N)
Sensing-Intuition is the first pair of cognitive functions and the preference for how your prefer to be served information; through the five senses or from the subconscious. Your score on S-N was 0.1 (scores range from -2 to 2) which indicates that you are an intuitive (with low confidence)
Feeling (F)
 Thinking (T)
Feeling-Thinking is the second pair of cognitive functions, the judging functions, which are used to evaluate goals; either through personal values or objective principles. Your score on F-T was 0.25 (scores range from -2 to 2) which indicates that you are a thinker (with low confidence)
Judging (J)
 Perceiving (P)
Judging-Perceiving is what pair of cognitive functions your prefer to use; Judging is a preference for a structured lifestyle and the use of feeling and thinking while perceiving is the preference for a flexible lifestyle and the use of sensing and intuition. Your score on J-P was 0.625 (scores range from -2 to 2) which indicates that you are a perceiver (with medium confidence)

When combined, that makes your personality type ENTP. A detailed description of this personality type is below.

Using their primary function-attitude of extraverted intuition (Ne), ENTPs are quick to see complex interrelationships between people, things, and ideas. These interrelationships are analyzed in profound detail through the ENTPs auxiliary function, introverted thinking (Ti). The result is an in-depth understanding of the way things and relationships work, and how they can be improved. To the ENTP, competence and intelligence are particularly prized, both in themselves and in other people.

ENTPs are frequently described as clever, cerebrally and verbally quick, enthusiastic, outgoing, innovative, flexible, loyal and resourceful. ENTPs are motivated by a desire to understand and improve the world they live in. They are usually accurate in sizing up a situation. They may have a perverse sense of humor and sometimes play devil's advocate, which can create misunderstandings with friends, coworkers, and family. ENTPs are ingenious and adept at directing relationships between means and ends. ENTPs devise fresh, unexpected solutions to difficult problems. However, they are less interested in generating and following through with detailed plans than in generating ideas and possibilities. In a team environment, ENTPs are most effective in a role where they can draw on their abilities to offer deep understanding, a high degree of flexibility, and innovative solutions to problems. The ENTP regards a comment like "it can't be done" as a personal challenge, and, if properly motivated, will spare no effort to discover a solution.

ENTPs generally have the following traits:
  • Project-oriented
  • Enjoy generating ideas and theories
  • Creative and ingenius
  • Bright and capable
  • Flexible and Diverse
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enjoy debating issues with other people
  • Excellent people skills
  • Natural leaders, but do not like to control people
  • Resist being controlled by people
  • Lively and energetic; able to motivate others
  • Highly value knowledge and competence
  • Logical, rational thinkers
  • Able to grasp difficult concepts and theories
  • Enjoy solving difficult problems
  • Dislike confining schedules and environments
  • Dislike routine, detailed tasks

Possible Career Paths for the ENTP :
  • Lawyers
  • Psychologists
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Consultants
  • Photographers
  • Engineers
  • Scientists
  • Actors
  • Sales Representatives
  • Marketing Personnel
  • Computer Programmer or Systems Analyst

Taylor's Graduate Capabilities

For the first day of the MPU Program, we've done a mindmap for the subject Biology on Taylor's Graduate Capabilities. My group, Insurgent has done some researches online and found out how to apply those capabilities for the field of Biology. After doing the mindmap, I hope I will acquire these 8 capabilities by the time I graduate from Taylor's College and will be able to apply these on my daily life.

  • As a saying of Lao Tze, "Learning is a life long process".

Hi, I'm Sky from Kajang. I'm 18 years old, and I love sports, all sorts of sports. I'm a volleyball and basketball player. I can also play table tennis, football, futsal and badminton. My hair is very very short as I was in National Service for 2 months. During the 2 months, I met a lot of new friends, and mixed with people from all sorts of backgrounds and culture. I also got to know more about other religions and languages. I learnt some Islamic terms and Kelantan native Malay.

As a extrovert, I love mixing with people, and meeting new people. I also love traveling, I've been to many places, suck as Sydney, Bali, Singapore, Krabi Island, Tokyo, Hokkaido, South Korea, Paris, London, Hong Kong, China, Canterbury, and Macau. In 2012, I participated in a Homestay Program in United Kingdom. I'm also live an active lifestyle. I participate in lots of sports competition.

In my high school life, I was very active in clubs and societies. I organized lots of events for my clubs. One of the major event was Librarian Week, which we managed to get a profit of RM2,000. My high school life was very busy and lots of fun, that's why I don't really do homework or listen in class. It's a struggle for me in college as it requires a lot of attention in class, and lots of homework and it's very stressful. I hope I can survive for the remaining 14 months and get an awesome resut for my A-Levels.

  • May all odds be ever in your favor.
